How to clean a fabric furniture?
Your fabric furniture is probably the most used furniture in your living room. Whether it's for reading a book, entertaining or watching television, your sofas, armchairs or even poufs are in high demand. That's why it's essential to take care of them regularly, so that they can keep their shine for as long as possible. So, how do you maintain your fabric furniture and how do you clean stains? Here are some tips.
How to successfully clean fabric furniture?
There are several cleaning methods to take care of your furniture: dry cleaning and wet cleaning. First of all, take the time to read the instructions for your product to avoid any risks: some materials can withstand humidity, while others cannot.
How to permanently get rid of stains on your fabric furniture?
Do you regularly maintain your fabric furniture and still get stains? It is sometimes inevitable, but not irreparable: the most important thing is to act quickly and effectively. If the stain is still recent, get an absorbent solution such as baking soda or Fuller's earth and apply a large quantity to the stain. Then leave it to act for at least an hour, then rub gently before vacuuming. If the stain is older and well-entrenched, you can opt for a fabric stain remover that is easily found in supermarkets. Otherwise, make your own stain remover by mixing white vinegar, dishwashing liquid and clear water. Spray the mixture using a spray or apply it with a soaked sponge. Then, remove the solution using a damp cloth and let the cleaned area dry.
Daily maintenance of fabric furniture
Once or twice a year, a thorough cleaning of your fabric sofa, armchair or pouf is recommended. In the meantime, it is advisable to maintain it regularly to prevent dirt from accumulating. If your product has a removable cover, maintenance is simple: refer to the label and then put it in the washing machine. Then let it air dry. However, if your product is not removable, it will require a little more effort.
First of all, make sure to dust it regularly to protect it from mites, dust or bad odours. So, once or twice a month, remember to vacuum it (brush attachment) to remove dust, which is often invisible to the naked eye.
Then, don't hesitate to use a waterproofer to protect your fabric sofa or armchair from potential stains. Spray it all over the product, then wait a full day before using it again, so that the product has enough time to dry.
Baking soda
If your fabric furniture is a little more fragile, opt for dry cleaning with baking soda. This method has two advantages: it restores the shine to the fabric and deodorizes it. Sprinkle your sofa with baking soda, then gently scrub with a brush or cloth. Let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum your furniture.
White vinegar
A natural cleaning solution, white vinegar is your best ally for deep cleaning your fabric product. To do this, start by preparing a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. Soak a sponge in this solution, then gently rub your sofa. Rinse with a damp cloth, then dry with a dry cloth. Wait a few hours for the furniture to be completely dry before using it again.
Steam cleaning
First of all, make sure that your sofa, armchair or even beanbag can withstand heat and steam by testing the device on an inconspicuous area. If no halo is created during this test and if the color has not changed, you can use the steam cleaner to clean your product in depth. It will disinfect the fabric and remove dirt. If your furniture does not tolerate this method, prepare a mixture of clear water and Marseille soap, then apply it to the sofa using a cloth.
Soda crystals
Dilute a cup of soda crystals in a large container filled with water. Then rub the surface of your furniture using a sponge soaked in this mixture. Be careful, however, if your sofa is colored, we do not recommend this technique. Indeed, it presents a risk of discoloration. Only use it for furniture in light tones.
